We booked the basic Forest King Room, since the pictures of this view looked peaceful and pretty, and I had read that the next view category (vineyard view) isn’t worth paying for because the hotel’s new vineyards haven’t grown in. It also included early check-in/late check-out, neither of which we needed on this trip. Pre-Arrival Experience: I made our reservation using a preferred travel agent for Montage, so we were able to get extra benefits included for free, such as a room upgrade if available, a $60 breakfast credit each morning, and a $100 resort credit. Although nothing major went wrong during our stay, and staff members were all very nice, the new hotel does not provide an experience commensurate with the price tag. I had heard wonderful things about Montage resorts, and this was our first Montage stay, so we went in with very high expectations. I recently stayed at the new Montage Healdsburg for two nights as part of a longer trip to celebrate my wife’s 30th birthday, and unfortunately, we were not fans of this property. I reached out to the concierge before our stay to ask. I don’t think a vineyard on property was really necessary, since the mature oaks and mountains in the distance are perfectly attractive on their own. The plants are all just twigs, so you’re mostly just looking at wire supports.
